Yusuf Omar is Mobile Editor of the Hindustan Times in India. He is currently building the world’s largest mobile journalism team, training 750 reporters to tell stories using their phones.
Currently in London, he’s attending the Thomson Foundation Media Convergence course.
In 2015, Yusuf won Vodacom Journalist of the Year Editor’s Choice, recognizing five years of mobile journalism and virtual reality stories in Africa. He has been named a ‘Top 20 Global Millennial To Watch In 2016’ by Cliff Central.
At this year’s Mobile Journalism Conference in Dublin, Yusuf won Mobile Journalist of the Year 2016. He has been researching Snapchat storytelling as #DukeMediaFellow in North Carolina, USA – and most recently has used Snapchat to help tell stories of sexual abuse in India.
As a foreign correspondent, Yusuf has reported live from the Syrian front line and other hostile environments,
