Meral Guzel is Empower Women Regional Coordinator of UNWomen for Europe and Central Asia, working on women’s economic empowerment issues.  With  over 10 years of experience in international development and financial services across Europe, Latin America & the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East through work at the World Bank Group and the private sector, Meral’s expertise includes banking on women, financial inclusion (MSME development, remittances, access to finance), as well as women’s entrepreneurship. She has worked with both the private and public sectors in program strategy, design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative programmes. Prior to joining United Nations, Meral established the Women Banking department at Turk Ekonomi Bankasi and rolled-out initiatives and functions from the ground up.

Meral is an economist and holds Master’s degrees in International Franchise, International Finance and High European Studies . She speaks Turkish, English, French and Spanish and has three sons.
