As BBC Media Action’s Senior Producer, Digital, Elizabeth Mearns (@lmearns) trains and advises digital innovations and social media strategy to production teams both in the UK and worldwide. She is at the forefront of developing new digital media formats and Social Media strategies for projects in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Elizabeth spends a good amount of time travelling to train and mentor BBC Media Action production staff to harness the huge potential technological advancement in developing countries, with a special emphasis on mobile broadband. Her main areas of expertise are multimedia news journalism, radio documentaries, social media and digital tools. Previously, Elizabeth was a producer at NPR, CNNi and BBC World Service. Gaining an MA (Econ) in International Development from the University of Manchester she started her career at Oxfam. Here she learned the importance of the role of media in development and decided to train in media production. Twenty years later she has found herself in a development role again, bringing her knowledge and expertise to the humanitarian sector
